"Just the.....bear, dog, cat classes

So many people have asked for a class that teaches just the techniques for learning to tear the mulberry animals that I've decided to have some "Just the...." classes. We will not be working on pages during these classes. The focus will be on the (bear, dog, chick, etc) and not other product techniques. Of course I will always have something that will work with whatever animal we are doing. The first class is "Just the Dog" and it is Tuesday, April 14. "Just the Bear" is on Wednesday, April 15. "Just the Cat" is on Thursday April 23.

New Classes

We'll be having a new Cri-cut class using the Paper Dolls cartridge. This is a great intermediate-advanced class. Paper piecing is so popular now and easy to do (if you know). It adds a really fun element to your pages. Class is Feb 19, 6-7:30 and is $20.

We'll also be having a beginner class on Thursday, February 26. 6-7:30 $10

Katie is back with a new mini book. She's going to take the Kaisercraft "flip book" and make another awesome book. Class is Saturday,March 7 from 3:00-5:00 $20.

Also, I had such a great response to the Valentine bear class, that I've decided to do one once per month. Once you have taken the class I will have monthly pages/kits for you to try. The next class will be on Thursday, March 12 in the evening.

New Online Store and Auctions

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We've made it through our fourth art show, the Christmas shopping and cropping season and happy returns day. As the year winds down I am focusing on finishing our new web site which will include a Kiwi Monkey web site. (yeah). The web site is a priority because..hopefully...our online store will be up and running in January. It's going to be a lot of word and a scramble to get as much product up there as possible, but it will be worth it.
In playing around with different items that we will be selling, I've put two of my 2 page 12 x 12 tear bear layouts on EBay through our new Auctiva account. If you can maneuver around and find us let me know-(they say we're there, and I can see what I posted in my account, but I cannot find it any other way!)
I am totally sure that this is going to be a HUGE learning curve. I appreciate any and all constructive feedback or requests. I will do my best to make it easy for you to be inspired and shop at your convenience.

Tear Bear Class

Learn the techniques to create the adorable tear bears that are earning the professionals a great living right now. We have Jen Lemon, professional artist in to share her tricks of the trade on Tuesday, December 2 from 6-8pm. You'll not only learn how to make the bears, but you'll leave with this darling holiday plaque.

We also are happy to announce that we have found the source for the special mulberry paper used to create the bears. As far as I know we are the only store in Michigan that carries the paper. I'm testing the waters on this so if you are interested let me know and I'll reorder soon. The paper is hand made and comes from Thailand so it takes a little time to get.

Ok. So I'm really bad at getting product pictures on the blog. I'm gonna figure it out yet, but here's a sampling of a new winter line from Reminisce. We made a Christmas card hanging box with this and it turned out great. Of course the winter pages will be super fun too. The Halloween arrived as well but I'm not sold on it. I'm curious as to what you will think of the hallographics. The school line is due to arrive in August and it is soooo cooooool. I can't wait to do samples. Enjoy. I just got my scrap-n-stow today and it's awesome!!!! Here's a picture of the newest and greatest from CHA Chicago show. You can see it and play with it in the store, but you've got to order yours. The company has sold out until September. They will ship it right to your house. It'll be on your Christmas gift list for sure. It is super light weight and folds down flat to stow away.

Guess what? I have figured out how to make custom paper. We now have Canton, Salem, Plymouth, Canton Lions, Plymouth-Canton Steelers, and Detroit Tigers paper!! I also just had a grandma order paper with her granddaughter's name! I am now able to do just about any custom wording.

I'm working on the new web site in between the Kiwi craziness and post CHA show fun so you'll e able to order online soon. In the meantime you can stop in to see me and pick your colors and fonts!

We're finally ready to let everyone in on the secret we've been keeping since CHA Anaheim. We've started a new company called Kiwi Monkey to compliment Scrapbook Mania. We've always been famous for our fabulous and amazing designs and we know how little time that most of our shoppers have, so we've combined our product with our talent and started Kiwi Monkey to do the work for you. We will continue to make great premade pages and we'll add in fun gift and home decor items as well. If the buzz created by the Art in the Park is any indication of what people think, I'd say we're right on target with this one.

It's Been So Long....Art Fair

I can't believe that it's been this long since our last post! Sorry for that. We've been working like crazy getting ready for this weekend's art fair. For anyone that hasn't heard, we have been selected to display our wares at the 2nd largest art fair in Michigan-the Plymouth Art in the Park. The art fair is this weekend, July 11, 12, and 13. We are going to be on the corner of Ann Arbor Trail and Forest-an unbelieveable spot! Come and visit to see what all this "Kiwi Monkey" stuff is all about. We'll have the most amazing canvases, several sizes of acrylic paint cans, wall plaques, clocks, trays, nesting boxes, jewlery boxes, frames, a few braggables, clipboards, acrylic and chipboard books-premade and naked, and tons of our fabulous pages. I'm sure I forgot a few things. The customers that have gotten sneak peak are gonna be the first in line. The team really outdid themselves with this one. This is Meaghan and Sara setting up the tent for a trial run in our crop room.See you Friday!

I'm not sure how many of you know that I purchased a Pazzle Pro with tons of images and fonts last month. It's awesome to see all of the cool things that can be done. I've made severacustom word books too. The problem most of us have with word books is all of the tracing and cutting to cover the letters. These books start with letters in the paper of your choice. Since Mothers Day is just 3 weeks away we picked "Mother" and "Grandma" to focus on. I chose the new My Mind's Eye Wild Asparagus 4 line to create these great gift albums for you. We'll custom create an album for you. Pick 3 papers and your word and we'll create your album and no brown chipboard to cover. All you have to do is embellish and add your photos. These are the before and after pictures of one mother book.

I have recently figured out how to customize these with someones name. I have some fun, new fonts to choose from. Stop in and we'll help you choose.

CHA World's Fair

We fly out to Anneheim February 9 to see and buy all of the new fabulous merchandise for this year! Please, please let us know what you are looking for. This is the biggest show in the world and literally thousands of people will be selling their goodies. As always, we will be seeking out all of the new vendors to bring you things that the big box guys could never get. If you see something in the magazines that you just have to have, let us know and we'll do our best. We'll get to play with the new crop-o-dile! (I have pre-ordered 24 of them and will take pre buys). If you like working with the old one, wait until you see the new one. It has a measure on it so all of you eyelets will be in a perfect line-and it has a longer reach!

I really need to know if you want card and stamping products! I've brought some in and have had mixed results. Help. Could be you didn't know we have it, you don't want it, we don't have enought of it, or you don't know what to do with that stuff. Let me know. Thanks for being patient with the blog. Seems like it was last week when we updated. Oops. December kept us busy stocking new holiday product almost daily as well as helping all of you busy scrappers. I've been out since before Christmas with that creapy virus, but I'm back and we're back to new business.

The January class schedule is out now. Meaghan is going to be doing a beginner, intermediate, and advanced class every month.

We are also going to have teen night every Tuesday from 5-8. Free cropping, discounts and prizes just for showing up. Morgan is busy creating some awesome new projects for all of the girls. Adornit has some awesome teen/tween stuff we're just dying to show you.

Are you interested in digital scrapbooking, but are afraid to make the leap? Well, we've got just the thing for you here at Scrapbook Mania. It's our first ever "Hybrid" Mini Book class just in time for the Thanksgiving Holidays. If you're not familiar with the term "Hybrid" it simply means to take digital elements and use them as you would traditional scrapbooking materials. The creator of this class is Brooke Rochon, whom also is a Digital Scrapbooking materials designer. For this class you will be creating a 6x6 Mini Book titled "Be Thankful" using a digital scrapbooking kit designed by Mrs. Rochon called "Eclectic Autumn" that will actually be printed out on paper for you to use in order to assemble this lovely little book. This book is perfect as a gift for your Thanksgiving day hostess or as a personal reminder to yourself as to what you should be thankful for. All you will need for the class is some adhesive of your choice, a brown stamp pad, scissors and some sort of hole punch. That's it, the mini book, letter stickers and paper printed digital elements will be provided for you. The cost for the class is just $27 and includes free a CD of the entire Eclectic Autumn kit for you to enjoy. CD requires a program such as Adobe Photoshop Elements or the standard Adobe Photoshop in order to use these elements. Bag sale was another big success for Scrapbook Mania. It was fun to see some of our favorite customers lined up at 5am with coffee and donuts as they waited with anticipation. The staff worked very hard to keep the lines moving as smoothly as possible as well as assisting everyone as they searched for the perfect "bag" items. We are now in the process of putting everything back together and in a proper place. The purchases from the July CHA buy are still rolling in everyday. Fancy Pants has a fabulous line that just hit yesterday. You will have to see the new transparencies as well as the most awesome little chipboard books for babies. These will be great gifts too. With all the new stuff coming in, it's hard to keep track of everything but there is one thing people are raving about! Brand new albums from Spaark! These scrapbook albums have a leather outside and suede inside and the best part you can decorate them to your hearts content! They come in 12x12 and 8x8 sizes and you can punch, emboss, eyelet, rub-on, sticker...anything to them. We designed these two as samples. The pink one has eyelets, a picture cut out, rub-ons, heat embossing and doodling! The black one was made using eyelets and ribbon to create a corset effect for a wedding album! I've been working at Scrapbook Mania since it opened. I've been scrapbooking for about 5 years, ever since my class trip to Europe in 2002. I wasn't the best scrapper 'til I started working here and got a lot of practice and ideas. I go to school at Madonna for Forensic Science and Schoolcraft for Criminal Justice. Between both schools and work, there's not a whole lot of time, so I've been focusing more on making cards, rather than scrapbooking. I love making cards. My most favorite scrapbooking tools would have to be chalk and my trimmer. I couldn't cut a straight line to save my life!

At scrapbook mania I work as a design team member, birthday party coordinator, and kids camp coordinator. I am a student studying biology with hopes of being a pediatrician. I love kids which makes me good at my job! A long with kids I love shopping, disneyworld, giggling, warm weather, people, smiling, traveling, and scrapbooking of course! I started scrapbooking three years ago, and I have been addicted ever since. Most of my scrapbooks are of my friends and I...I do a scrapbook for every school year. My most recent scrapbook is of my summer trip to Sydney, Australia! :-) I also tend to give scrapbooks as gifts. Shadow boxes, frames, & wall decorations are some of my favorite things to give as gifts! I try everything when I scrapbook, and as a result I don't have a favorite company or line! I love it all! If I had to pick I couldn't live without Chalk, great adhesive ( I prefer glue dots & my vario tab dispenser), my fiskars cutter, and coordinating paper!

This is Meaghan, our fabulous design team leader. She is also in charge of our TickledPinkKit club. It's not really a club, but we call it that anyway. She creates fabulous "kits" by taking several papers and adds creative embellishments to come up with an assortment of scrapbooking items designed to give you what you need to create 4-6 fabulous scrapbook pages. Just back from CHA in Chicago and the new merchandise is better than I ever imagined! 9 new lines from Reminisce are already here as well as all new Cosmo Cricket, and just arrived today -Daisy D's! Our store calendar is now available online only. With all of the paper we use we're trying to be as "green" as we can. The staff will regularly update it with new classes, events, and sales as we come up with them. We're working really hard to make this website awesome for you. If you subscribe to Google calendar they will give you reminders to any sales or classes you choose. You can choose when you want to be reminded and how often. Really awesome and easy reminder for anything, not just Scrapbook Mania sales.
